Last week the little man turned 11 months. As much as I am excited and looking forward to it, I am shocked and saddened his birthday is coming around at an alarming rate. I think I am mourning the little baby he used to be. I didn’t get to enjoy him properly when he was smaller due to his ongoing problems health wise and want to hold onto the precious little small baby that he was. Cameron of course is loving his new found independence, exploring everything and anything.
We are always willing our babies to crawl, walk, talk and look forward to the day they have a little independence but truth is, it comes around too damn fast and before you know it you will be wishing for that time back when you just get to sit and hold and cuddle your baby without having to wrestle them off the dogs tail.
So does life get a little bit easier with this new found independence? I hear you ask. Will you get some extra time to yourself or hoping for a few hours more sleep? I ask myself this on a daily basis but my response in my head goes something along the lines of “Sharonn who are you kidding! Hell will freeze over before you get a full nights sleep”. You know that song, take three steps forward and two steps back? Well that’s me in a nutshell. But honestly, as much as I am in a sleep deprived state and don’t stop running after him I am loving seeing his little personality come through. When I see his cheeky little smile any tiredness and frustration just drifts out the window.
Now that he is mobile and crawling forward at lightning speed I might add, it is impossible to leave him for a second. Long gone are the days when I could have nipped into the kitchen and left him propped up with cushions and some toys, instead now he is right behind me. He has started to get a fascination with the washing machine, as soon as the kitchen door is opened no matter what exciting toy he is playing with, he makes a mad dash in there. He gets such amusement out of it and giggles and chats away to it. I wish I found it so amusing, instead I feel I am working in a Chinese laundry most days.
The jumperoo is absolutely fantastic for entertaining them, however I can’t seem to leave him alone for a second in that either as he jumps and bounces so vigorously that I think he is trying to launch himself into space!
By this stage your baby is so inquisitive about everything, did you hear, absolutely e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g………You can bet your house on it that when they make their bid for freedom, they will ignore every flashy musical toy and head straight for the plug sockets, leads, tiny dot of dirt on the floor, basically anything they shouldn’t be near. Visitors handbags are another minefield for an adventure prone baby, they are filled with all sorts of interesting things and your baby will love nothing more than investigating these new arrivals, so make sure you have all handbags hidden and away from their prying hands and mouths. Which brings me to my next question – Why is it that a baby will use their mouth to explore every fascinating little item they find but when you try to give them food, that mouth gets trapped so shut that it would take a bulldozer to prize it open?
You might be worrying that you are going to have to start investing in lots of toys and things to keep your baby entertained on a daily basis but honestly give your baby a cardboard box and they will get such amusement out of it. Their little brains are growing and accumulating everything they see, they are like sponges and just sitting hearing you point everything out that is around them will excite them. This week we went to the library and I got Cameron his first ever library card. He loves books, just like his big sister and we sit looking at all the different colours, pictures and objects and he has started to connect words with pictures which is the cutest. You should take your little one to the library, its free, its an exciting trip out for them and it is never too young to start enjoying the magic of books.
I am looking forward to sharing with you all the adventures that we will be having in the next coming weeks, months and years. Have an amazing weekend lovelies Xxx
