I have been missing in action the past week as the little man was admitted into hospital again. Due to his ongoing nights screaming and crying his Doctor felt it was to best to readmit him and observe him for a few nights to try and work out what is going on and if anything is underlying that may need intervention.
This time round was our fourth admission and one I was dreading as he is older now and mobile so I didn’t know how I was going to be able to occupy him and make him feel less unsettled as he is very aware of his surroundings now and becoming a bit strange, not to mention the separation anxiety which has definitely stepped up a notch lately.
Thankfully armed with toys and lots of his home comforts we survived. The Ward also had a brilliant play area and Play Specialists who brought him lots of toys and he was quite contented. There was a storyteller that came in one day with his didgeridoo (I kid you not!) and lots of musical instruments which was a great way for all the kids on the Ward to interact and for a few minutes made them forget about where they actually where. Overall I was very impressed with the Staff and how well run the Ward was compared to our previous admissions, this one was bearable.
Cameron did however develop an infection, i’m not sure if he went in with it or caught it in there so he hasn’t been too well but a few days of being on antibiotics he should be back to himself.
