Us mums are always on the go and find it incredibly hard to try and eat most of the time, never mind healthy. When we do manage to grab a morsel of food, it is usually something that will give us a quick sugar or carbohydrate fix. I am a self confessed bread addict and would normally have grabbed a slice of toast or croissant quicker than a dinner so that’s when I decided to make a few easy lifestyle changes that would help me stay healthy and shed some pounds, because lets face it, who doesn’t want to lose a few. With a few minutes preparation you can ensure you have healthier options when you need to grab and go.
Every couple of days I get fresh salad and make sure I wash, chop and put it all in a big salad bowl and cover it with cling film in the fridge, so its ready and waiting when I need to think about lunch or dinner. This way its ready made and you are more likely to have the salad as opposed to thinking about having to wash and prep everything and thus avoiding grabbing a bag of crisps or chocolate bickie instead. I also make sure I always have a packet of wheat wraps and lately have discovered Tesco’s Mediterranean herb tortilla wraps flavoured with parsley, basil and thyme and which are really tasty and a better option than bread. I throw in the salad and it really makes such a nice filling lunch. As I’m vegetarian I stick to my salad but you can always have ham, chicken or whatever filling you would like to combine with the salad all prepared and in a container as well. Add some balsamic vinegar and your good to go.
Next up I always make sure I have fruit washed and prepared in containers in the fridge. Blueberries and strawberries are my favourite and I add them to a nice yoghurt. I am currently loving Muller Lights Passionfruit, Orange & Lime yoghurts and also Yeo Valley’s Raspberry & Passion fruit yoghurt. They are both so refreshing and with the fruit added, very filling. I also like to keep the little snack packs of fruit from Asda in the fridge as they are great for snacking on and great for your little ones if you have started them on solids. Watermelon is always a big hit with them and for 5 for £1.50 such a bargain.
I’m trying to cut back on fizzy drinks as well, I normally would have a can of coke zero but have now tried to limit this and I love Asda’s Orange, Pineapple and Coconut Juice poured over ice.
These are just some of my suggestions that take minutes to prepare and taste amazing.
