Who doesn’t want a gorgeous set of pearly whites? I for one am always trying every teeth whitening toothpaste available and have dabbled with bleaching my teeth myself, but unless you are using bleach provided by a dentist or qualified practitioner you should stay clear of any bleaches bought online as you do not know what is in them and they tend to be much stronger than what is recommended and could potentially dangerous to your teeth.
Instead you should book in to get your teeth whitened professionally and that is exactly what I did last week at The White House, Lisburn Road, Belfast.
I have never been to have my teeth professional whitened before so I was very excited but a little nervous if i’m honest as I didn’t know if it would hurt or how I would cope with lying for an hour with my mouth clamped open.
On arrival I was met by the very friendly Paula who would be carrying out my treatment. She asked me to take a seat in their reception area and fill out some forms. The reception area itself is very modern, bright and incredibly welcoming. The blue and white decor is very fresh and appealing.
Once I had completed my forms Paula then explained the treatment with me. She then asked me to take a seat in another room in a very comfortable dentist’s chair with a stool. Once settled comfortably Paula compared my teeth to a colour guide and showed me where I was initially on the colour chart before my teeth whitening. I was then asked to fit the retractor in my mouth which keeps the mouth open and your lips away from your teeth so the teeth whitening bleaches are easily applied.
Once putting on some safety glasses, Paula applied an accelerator onto my teeth which was left on for two minutes with the UV light.
Once this was then removed Paula mixed two different types of whiteneing gels (they have a few they choose from depending on the client and at 6% Hydrogen Peroxide they are formulated to not be harmful but to strengthen the teeth) these gels are then left on the teeth for 15 minutes with the UV light in place and this process is repeated three times. Each 15 minutes Paula removed the gels and reapplied.
All I had to do was sit back relax and watch the TV and the whole process was incredibly relaxing. I did not feel any discomfort at all and I certainly did not have any sensitivity.
After the hour was up Paula asked me to rinse my mouth with water and then we compared my teeth to the chart again and I had went up 4 shades!!! I am totally wowed with my brighter whiter teeth and in just an hour it is perfect for everyone on the go.
Following any teeth whitening procedure you need to follow a strict white diet for 24 hours. Basically nothing with colour is to be eaten or drank as it can stain the teeth otherwise. The Clinic will provide you with a list of foods you can and can’t eat. You also cannot smoke for 24 hours afterwards either to make sure you achieve the best results possible.
Left: Before & Right: After
I can’t recommend The White House Clinic enough for teeth whitening and at £145 it is definitely worthwhile. Check out their website here for more information and to book in – The White House
