Life passes by in a flash. Every one of your baby’s milestones you try and remember or record, but what about all the little things day to day that brighten up your world that your little precious one does that may be forgotten easily, so that is when I decided to open email accounts for my babies and email them about everything we do. All the places we visit and things they have played with or seen. Some day they will be able to look back and read all about what was happening in their daily lives and the adventures we went on. All those little memories that photos maybe did not capture will be ready and waiting for them on their 18th birthday, when I will tell them about their own personal online memoirs I’ve kept for them all these years. I wouldn’t want them to have it before then, as a younger child would not understand the sentimental value of what I was trying to achieve or appreciate what they are about to read.
I thought it was such a lovely idea to be able to share all my thoughts and memories with them and I can just imagine their faces as they delve deep into their past and experience things they wouldn’t remember. It really is a digital baby book full of memories, photos, thoughts and messages for them to treasure forever.
It is also nice to reserve a decent email account for them, as I am sure there will be hundreds of people with the same name some day and it will be harder to obtain an email account with their actual name without having to add on a series of numbers and letters. It is of course very likely they will have already set up their own email accounts before they turn 18, which will be full of spam, emails from their school friends and senseless information from the numerous Barbie and Lego sites and whatever other toy of the moment happens to be. It will be good for them to have a fresh email account to start their adult years with, spam free, along with the added bonus of a precious folder of memories from Mummy.
Being totally sleep deprived on a daily basis it can be hard to remember ones name most days never mind 18 odd years worth of memories or have the time to sit and write in a diary, so it really is such a quick way of capturing and sharing what we did that particular day or a special milestone such as a first word, birthday or the first time they crawled and to share with them my feelings and joy when that special moment happened. They will have the opportunity to relive a memory they cant remember for themselves.
I would have really loved this for myself, but unfortunately, there was no such thing as emails or the web for that matter back in the day when I was growing up (now I know what your thinking so behave i’m not that old!!!) maybe Mum could have sent an owl or pigeon to some sort of memory library or just kept a journal.
It’s exciting and I am really enjoying emailing most days to them and even sharing little videos of them along with photos of paintings my little girl has done or something she has made at school and even their baby scans, just anything and everything gets winged off into cyberspace, locked away for them. I cannot wait to share these memories with them some day.
Until then…….Baby, you’ve got mail!
