Having wanted to try the new matt liquid lip kits by Kylie Jenner since they where launched, I managed to bag myself some and I was literally like a kid in a candy shop when they arrived. Just how did I manage to get my hands on them, you are probably asking yourself, as they are virtually impossible to come by as they sell out worldwide in seconds whenever they are restocked on the website. Well the lip kits usually go on sale at 3pm pacific time which is midnight GMT time, and as I am always up at that time feeding I thought I would try and have a go at ordering. The first time I tried to order I managed to add some to my basket, but by the time I realised you could not pay by paypal and I went to grab my purse to pay by card, the items had been removed from the checkout and everything was sold out, much to my disappointment and millions of others worldwide, who where experiencing the same. Plus the site kept crashing and Jenner herself said how they where experiencing technical difficulties due to the large influx of users.
It isn’t like purchasing anything else online where they hold the items in your basket, for some reason the site does not hold the items for any length of time, not even minutes. The following Monday I tried again, as they only restock once a week, this time I was more prepared and had my card beside me, I went on before the release time and completed my shipping details and I also made sure I had checked out the colours that I wanted and when they went on sale I was able to complete checkout in under a minute. So if you are wanting to purchase any, just make sure you have your card details to hand and have completed your shipping details prior to them going on sale.
On first impression, the packaging is gorgeous, they arrive in a very on trend black and white box and the lip kits come well protected by foam sheets top and bottom. The lip kit boxes have Kylies signature lip image. There is a little card inside with a message from Kylie which is a nice touch. The liquid lipsticks look very luxe and I love the dripping effect around the tubes. The pencils are black and very stylish, and quite similar to a Mac lip liner.
I went for Candy K which is a nude pink and is my favourite so far, and also Dolce K which is a brownish nude. First impressions on wearing the matt lipsticks my lips don’t feel dry at all. I would have quite dry lips and any sort of matt lipstick would end up drying my lips even more and the colour would be cracking, but with the Kylie Lip kits it didn’t happen at all. They felt super soft, almost like velvet all day long. The formula dries really quickly on the lips and locks in the colour. The colour of the lip kits are super pigmented and lasted all day on me and I had to really rub the colour off when I was removing my makeup so it really is long wearing.
Each lip kit comes with a matching lip liner which has a lovely creamy texture to it and so smooth it glides on. I have never come across a lip liner as luxurious as this one. You will need to sharpen it a lot quicker than a normal lipliner, I found mine went right down within two applications. The lip liner has a plastic type layer which you may wonder if you can sharpen, but it does sharpen fine with a normal makeup sharpener, just don’t lean to hard otherwise the actual lip liner will loosen inside which happened to me on one of the liners.
The other colours of the matt lip kits currently available are 22 which is a red orange colour, I think it would be amazing for summer. Posie K is a purple mauve shade and the next one I want to try. True Brown K is a very dark brown colour. Kourt K is a very deep purple, Mary Jo K is a bright red and just about to be launched is Exposed which is a neutral nude shade. There are also three new metal shades Reign K, King K and Heir K but they wouldn’t be my choice for everyday lip wear. She also has 3 lip glosses which I will review in the future.
If any of you have seen Kylie wearing her lipsticks you will notice she favours Candy K and it always does seem a lot lighter on her than when I applied it which you can see from the pics below. She has since said on social media that because of the high pigmentation only use one stroke of it and I have tried this myself and it definitely goes on lighter. I have been using a lip brush to apply the tiniest amount of colour across my lips and am happier with the result. Depending on your skin tone will determine how much you want to apply.
This is Candy K
This is Dolce K
Priced at $29 I think it is very reasonable considering that is for the lipstick and lip liner. Shipping is $14.95 for Europe regardless of what you order so to make it worthwhile try and order more than one product or if you and a few friends want to purchase some you could order together and split the shipping cost. Bear in mind you are restricted to a maximum of 3 of each colour when ordering, which is to make it fair to those trying to get their hands on one of the much coveted lip kits.
If you cant be bothered sitting up late to order or have had no luck to date then a really good alternative is NYX Matte Lip cream. These are more readily available in the UK and Boots being one of the main stockists. On trying the NYX Matte lip cream I was impressed with how smooth it glided on also, however it does take a little longer to dry compared to the Kylie lip kit. The colour lasted quite well throughout the day, although I did need to reapply a little after eating and drinking. The texture is nice and light and retailing from £5.50 it is bargain for a quality lip cream. They have a lot more colours in their range and the one pictured below of me wearing is Stockholm.
For longevity my favourite would be the Kylie Lip Kit but for everyday use and if you don’t mind touching up definitely invest in a few of the NYX matt lip creams, I know I am very excited to be trying some more colours and I will let you all know how I get on. Please share with me on my facebook page all your selfies of you wearing your Kylie Lip kits and NYX lip creams.
